Amsterdam Day Two and the Bato Bus

After our wild night at Supperclub, we woke up wondering if all of Amsterdam was going to be so crazy...

We had heard about a farmer's market near the center of the city and since that's about as tame as it gets, we hopped on the little metro bus in search of some food that didn't come with a striptease...

I should note that the metro here is super well done... It's very efficient and makes navigating the city quite easy. And it's heated!!

The farmer's market was the cutest!

Enough cheese to make this girl's heart swoon...

Yummy freshly baked bread...

Cute little Dutch flowers...

After nabbing a loot of a baguette and some various cheeses, we noticed that there was a large group of people gathering under this little awning and walked over to scope it out...

We soon learned that Winkel is a teeny cafe famous for nothing else but a killer apple pie! Umm YES... what is a vacation if you're not having dessert for breakfast?!

IDK if that photo does it justice, but it was HEAVEN. It was more like an apple pie/cake... the crust was akin to that of a cinnamon roll... yeah... Of course, a cappuccino was necessary to wash it all down...

You'll just have to take my word for it that we did not walk immediately from breakfast to lunch :)

We were out shopping for a few hours before ducking into a cafe, sinking down into some cozy bistro chairs and enjoying some wine and good old people watching...

Feeling revived, we made our way out into the city again to go to the Van Gogh Museum. It was a wonderful museum with some of Van Gogh's most famous works as well as those of his contemporaries. Unfortunately, the museum was super strict about not taking photos, so this was the only one I managed to sneak!

When we emerged, it was close to dinner time and I was SO excited because I had arranged for us to take a wine and cheese canal cruise... yeah, you read that right and it was EVERY bit as amazing as it sounds!

In this pic, you can kind of see how the bato bus is set up... There's lots of little tables in a row, each one already set up with their own arsenal of cheese!

And get this - that little metal thing on the side is a cheese slicer!!

If that is not the fanciest little cheese board you have ever seen in your life, then you are probably the Queen of Sheba and I would very much like to meet you and be friends...

The Bato Bus does canal tours all day long but I had heard it was most beautiful to do at night because of all the lights on the canal houses and bridges...

Then came the wine...

And boy, did it keep on comin! As is evident by this series of pics, hehe...

As we cruised along the canals, we were given little tidbit facts about the city; Like, A few hundred years ago, beer was cheaper than water, so everyone walked around slightly buzzed at all hours of the day! And the cheapest canal house apartment is three million euro!!!

We passed by the Anne Frank House and were told that the lights (in the second story windows) are always left on in remembrance...

A beautifully lit up bridge...

The very famous and very luxurious Intercontinental Heritage Hotel...
(Both Lady Gaga and Obama have stayed here)

This canal is famous for it's "7 Bridges" - seven humpbacked bridges that line right up when you pass by... I got a pretty good pic!

The little tables in the Bato Bus seat 4 total, and when Ian and I got seated, we crossed our fingers that we'd get some good peeps seated next to us... Thankfully, we got a young cute British couple! We hit it off immediately and went out for a few drinks once we were back on dry land, where I quickly forgot about my camera ;)

Looks like we didn't escape the Amsterdam debauchery after all!
